The ISTF 2025 Barometer confirms that digital learning is more central than ever to corporate training strategies. While trends remain largely stable, notable shifts are emerging, redefining training departments' priorities.

Blended Learning and Cost Optimization: A New Balance

The blended learning format (combining in-person and online training) continues to gain traction, offering flexibility and accessibility to learners. A key takeaway: cost reduction has entered the top four reasons for developing digital learning. This shift reflects a growing corporate drive to optimize budgets while maintaining engaging learning experiences.

Meanwhile, improving training effectiveness, responding to stakeholder and learner demands, and enhancing engagement remain the top three motivations for developing blended learning and online training.

Most Used Training Formats

The top five most widely used training formats remain stable:

  1. In-person training
  2. Virtual classrooms
  3. Scenario-based e-learning (approximately 25 minutes)
  4. Video learning
  5. Microlearning (under 2 minutes)

However, some modalities are evolving: Serious games have increased by 5 percentage points compared to last year. Podcasts have made their first appearance, ranking 8th place.

Learner Engagement: A Top Priority

Learner engagement is the number one challenge for training professionals.
With the rise of online learning, how can we keep learners motivated and engaged throughout their training?

Tutoring and dedicated learning time are essential levers to boost course completion rates.
Skill recognition, through certifications and digital badges, plays a key role in incentivizing learner motivation.

Conclusion: Towards More Agile and Impactful Training

Far from being just a tool, digital learning is now a strategic driver of adaptation and innovation for businesses.

The challenge for 2025? Balancing effectiveness, engagement, and cost control.
